How to Create Your Own Sports Wordle and Challenge Friends

1. Choose your sport and format

Open the Sportsdle challenge creator and select NHL, NFL, MLB, Soccer, UFC or F1. Soccer currently uses the Premier League pool. Each sport uses its own player, fighter or driver data, so choose the one your friends know best.

The creator builds a classic guess-the-athlete puzzle. Unlike a letter Wordle, the answer is an athlete and each attempt reveals feedback about that person. You do not need to write questions, prepare a spreadsheet or build the clues yourself.

2. Pick your mystery athlete

Search for a name in the available pool and select your answer. You can also use the random pick option for an idea. You will see the selected athlete while creating the puzzle, so your own attempts are practice rather than competitive entries.

For a first challenge, choose someone your group has a reasonable chance of recognizing. A familiar answer can still be tricky when players have to work through the clues. An obscure answer with very few guesses may leave friends with little to reason from. Custom data uploads and answers outside the available pool are not supported.

3. Set the guess limit and hints

You can allow between 3 and 15 guesses and turn higher/lower arrows on or off. Eight guesses with arrows enabled is a useful starting point for a mixed group; it is a suggested setup, not a guarantee of difficulty. The athlete you choose matters too.

For experienced fans, try reducing the guess limit after testing the puzzle. For newcomers, leave the arrows enabled and allow more attempts. The comparison categories depend on the sport, so check its maker page to see what a guess reveals.

4. Name and preview your challenge

Give the puzzle a title that sets the occasion without revealing the answer. “Friday hockey challenge” or “Race-weekend mystery driver” tells friends what they are opening. Putting the answer, team or a decisive clue in the title can spoil the puzzle before they start.

Use the preview before publishing. Check the sport, selected answer, guess limit and arrow setting. Try the puzzle to judge whether the clues make the answer approachable for your group. Because you already know the answer, leave yourself out of the competition.

5. Publish and share the link

Sign in to publish your finished challenge. Your first published challenge is free; additional challenges require Sportsdle Pro. Copy the link or use the share option and send it to your group chat. Friends can open the link and play without creating an account.

Everyone can play when they are ready. Ask friends to share their result without naming the answer so the next person gets the same challenge. Shared challenges are unlisted by default: share the link with the people you want to invite.

6. Compare results with your friends

Open the challenge standings to see how friends did. The standings use the first finished run; replays and your own attempts are practice. This lets people try again without replacing their original result.

For a game-night routine, agree on a time to compare results and keep answers out of the chat until then. If nearly everyone gets stuck, use a more familiar athlete or a larger guess allowance next time. If everyone solves immediately, try a tighter limit.
